Tempering and Color Enameling Expand Design Options with Pilkington Profilit™ Channel Glass

Snoqualmie, Wash. - Architects, designers and building owners interested in designing with glass and natural light in commercial buildings and homes now have additional options with Pilkington Profilit™ channel glass. Pilkington Profilit T is tempered to meet safety glazing requirements and is now available tempered in full lengths up to 23 feet. Pilkington Profilit T Color further enhances design flexibility and choice by incorporating enameling in a wide range of RAL-colors.

Offered by Technical Glass Products (TGP), the Pilkington Profilit line of products is an exciting alternative to glass block and other translucent materials. The Pilkington Profilit glazing system consists of unique, self-supporting, "U"-shaped glass channels and an extruded metal perimeter frame. The end result is a wall, façade or partition without vertical or horizontal supports, except the framing. A variety of colors and textures with varying translucency allow for the passage of natural light, without loss of privacy, in many versions of the product. www.tgpamerica.com

The frame and sills of the Pilkington Profilit glazing system can easily be shaped to form walls with virtually any number of curves. The glass channels can be installed vertically or horizontally and used in interior or exterior applications.

Pilkington Profilit T is produced according to EN 572-7 and has passed CPSC CFR Category II impact standards as a single plank and as an assembly. The tempering process allows the product to be used in areas requiring safety glazing. Full-length tempering of the glass channels up to 23 feet is now available from the factory, and post-factory tempering of shorter lengths for quick lead-time projects also continues to be available. Pilkington Profilit can also be filmed to achieve impact safety requirements.

Enameling for Pilkington Profilit T Color is accomplished during the tempering process and melds a colored ceramic frit to the inside of the "U" profile, which becomes an integral part of the glass. Pilkington Profilit T Color can be used as a colored accent in building designs and, unlike standard Pilkington Profilit or Profilit T, is not translucent. The enamel is available in a wide array of colors within the RAL color design system.
