Here’s what you need to know about steel curtain wall systems to get started on your next project.
Both interior and exterior curtain walls are often called upon to meet several performance criteria—from wind load resistance to sustainability benchmarks. To ensure a curtain wall assembly meets project goals and requirements, designers often look toward technical documents provided by glazing manufacturers.
Containing more in-depth information than a standard fact sheet, these documents can include which performance test standards a system has passed, framing dimensions, maximum span length, U-values, mullion and cover cap design options and more. But finding a manufacturer’s download center can sometimes feel like a maze of links.
For teams looking for CSI spec sheets, Technical Glass Products (TGP) has two download center hubs. Designers can click the “Resources” tab in the top menu of TGP’s sites, navigate to “Technical Documents” and click CSI Specs. This will take them to:
Accessing BIM or CAD files is slightly more complex. Designers will need to submit a request for both file formats, as well as other formats like Autodesk and Revit files. This request asks for professional contact information, project name and a project description.
For BIM files, this request gives instance access to the BIMObject page where architects can download the file. For CAD files, this request is directed to the appropriate Technical Account Manager (TAM) who will send the file with a project inquiry. The link to the request form can be found under the “Resources” tab within “Product Modeling” subhead:
In addition to BIM and CAD requests, designers can find detail drawings, CSI specs and more. Knowing where to access these documents can help ensure a design meets project goals as well as streamline the entire specification process.
In addition to TGP’s archive of technical documents, designers can contact TGP’s team directly to learn more about fire-rated and non-fire-rated glazing systems.
